Dr Alicia Thorp is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the Neurovascular Hypertension and Kidney Disease Laboratory at the Baker IDI Heart and Diabetes Institute in Melbourne, Australia. Dr Thorp completed her doctorate in Nutritional Physiology at The University of Adelaide in 2008 and was awarded a National Heart Foundation Postdoctoral Fellowship in Public Health in 2011 whilst a member of the Physical Activity Laboratory (at Baker IDI). Her research focuses on both behavioural and clinical interventions to reduce cardiovascular disease in at-risk adult populations. For the past five years her research has focused on the area of sedentary behaviour and health, particularly experimental studies to reduce workplace sedentary behaviour to improve cardiovascular disease and diabetes risk. It is envisaged the results from her investigations will help to inform the development and implementation of future workplace innovations, programs and policies to reduce sedentary behaviour and have a widespread impact on the cardiovascular health of Australians.
