Marika Tiggemann, Ph.D., is Matthew Flinders Distinguished Professor in Psychology at Flinders University. She teaches courses in Personality and Health Psychology. Her research interests centre around body image, and include the sociocultural antecedents (particularly media) of weight, dieting and body image issues among adults and children. She currently holds an ARC Discovery Grant (with Eva Kemps) investigating implicit cognitive processing associated with obesity, and another investigating the premature sexualisation and objectification of girls. Professor Tiggemann was inaugural Associate Editor of the journal Body Image, and currently sits on the Editorial Boards of Body Image and Sex Roles. She is a ministerial appointment to the Scientific Advisory Committee for OPAL (Obesity Prevention and Lifestyle), and a Fellow of the Academy of Social Sciences in Australia. With more than 200 published journal articles, she is one of the most highly cited psychologists in Australia.
