Dr Cate Lombard is Senior Lecturer, Department of Nutrition and Dietetics, Monash University. She is also an experienced Accredited Practicing Dietitian turning her skills to preventive health research for the past decade. Cate’s research focus is on the prevention rather than treatment of obesity, particularly in target groups such as young women, pregnant women and rural communities. Cate previously lead the prevention program at Monash Centre for Health Research and Implementation (MCHRI) focusing the development and testing of novel healthy lifestyle interventions. Cate developed the HeLP-her program, a novel community program to prevent weight gain which has undergone testing through rigorous randomised controlled trials in over 1100 women and is now being implemented across Victoria with the Victorian Government. Cate has worked in the area of preventive health at both the Victorian and National level, developing and managing healthy eating and physical activity programs. She has held positions in the not for profit sector and government including as Victorian State Nutritionist with the Victorian Department of Health. The HeLP-her program achieved a Gold Victorian Healthcare Award in 2013 and Cate was selected as a finalist in the Bupa Researcher of the Year 2013.
