Associate Professor Russell belongs to the Centre for Physical Activity and Nutrition (C-PAN) Research, located within the School of Exercise and Nutrition Sciences at Deakin University. He leads a research team investigating the molecular factors controlling skeletal muscle growth, regeneration and metabolism. Recently his work has focused on mechanisms controlling the differentiation of skeletal muscle-derived CD34+ cells into brown-adipocytes and their regulation in obesity and type 2 diabetes.
